Phyllis J. Walters, 75, a resident of Washington Odd Fellows Home, 534 Boyer Ave., died there Dec. 31, 2003.
Viewing will be from 3 to 8 tonight and 9 a.m. to noon Tuedsay at Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder St. The funeral will be there at 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Tom Peterson of Grace United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, 2120 S. Second Ave.
Memorials may be made to Walla Walla Community Hospice, Grace Church, American Diabetes Association or a charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home.
Mrs. Walters was born Nov. 24, 1928, in Ulysses, Kan., to Frank and Bee Stone Book. She attended schools in Kansas and Klamath Falls, Ore., where the family moved in 1940. They moved to Berkeley, Calif., during World War II, and she attended school there.
On Sept. 1, 1946, she married Gordon F. Walters in Berkeley. They came to Walla Walla, where he farmed with family. The couple farmed in partnership with his brother Darrel Walters until 1971.
During her children's youth she was a Cub Scout den mother, 4-H leader, First Congregational Church Sunday school teacher and Little League baseball volunteer.
The couple moved in 1973 to Ellensburg, where they owned and operated Cascade Trailer Court. Selling the business in 1978, they returned to Walla Walla and later managed an apartment complex for a few years. They settled at the Odd Fellows in September 2002.
An avid bowler, she was active in Women's Bowling Congress Association and taught children the sport. She volunteered with Walla Walla County Democrats and was a former state county Democratic committeewoman.
Members of Walla Walla Pioneer and Historical Society, she and her husband actively volunteered at Fort Walla Walla Museum.
