James was the son of Richard Craven Wilkins and Mary Herndon, he married twice, first to Malvina Mills Salmons on July 5, 1826. Malvina was born Oct. 17, 1809 in Simpson County Ky and died June 1861 in Bastrop County Texas. She is listed with her husband in the 1850 Simpson County Kentucky and the 1860 Bastrop County Texas. Malvina was the daughter of Nathan Salmons and Rebecca Ryan. James married second to Mary Elizabeth Highsmith Grimes on January 10, 1866 in Bastrop County TX. Mary was born 1823 in Missouri and died August 22, 1887 in Bastrop County Tx. All are buried in Bastrop County TX.
