George Elmer Dixon was born near Carlinville, Ills., July 25th, 1880, and died April 3, 1909, aged 28 years, 8 months, and 8 days.
On Jan 4 1900 he enlisted as a volunteer in Troop 17, U.S. Cavalry for 3 years. He did about 2 1/2 years service in Cuba, returning to the U.S. near the close of his term, was honorably discharged on June 5th, 1903, re-enlisted Jan. 7th 1903 at Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga., in Troop M, Twelfth Cavalry for three years; he was promoted to the rank of Corporal Oct. 1 1905 and on Nov 15 to the rank of Sergeant of his company, which position he held when discharged on the 6th of Jan. 1906. During his enlistment he spent most of the time in the Philippine service. His record as a soldier is noted by his commanding officer as of excellent character. Service record honest and faithful. He leaves to mourn his departure a mother, three sisters,two brothers, and a host of friends.
After services conducted by Rev. Isaac Frazier, the body was laid to rest in the Seelig cemetery. Peace to his ashes.
