Harrisburg (Pennsylvania) Patriot, Monday, October 30, 1911:
MRS. B. F. MEYERS, LONG SUFFERER, DIES
Wife of Newspaper Publisher Passes Away At Front Street Home
WAS CHURCH WORKER
Mrs. Susan Catherine Meyers, wife of Benjamin F. Meyers, publisher of the Star-Independent, died on Saturday afternoon at 4.30 o'clock at her home, 11 North Front street. Death was due to a complication of diseases, aggravated by paralytic trouble. Mrs. Meyers had been ill for the past five years and for the past two years she had been confined to her home.
The funeral services will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the residence. The officiating clergymen will be the Rev. Rollin A. Sawyer, rector of St. Stephen's Church, and the Rt. Rev. James Henry Darlington, bishop of the Harrisburg diocese. Interment will be made in the family mausoleum in Harrisburg cemetery.
Mrs. Meyers was the daughter of Jacob and Rosa Koontz, a prominent Somerset, Pa. family and was married to Mr. Myers (sic) on April 4, 1854. In 1874 she moved from Somerset to Harrisburg, where for six years previously Mr. Myers (sic) had been editor and proprietor of THE PATRIOT.
For many years she was prominently associated with the St. Stephens church being an active member of many of that congregations lady auxilliaries (sic).
She is survived by the following children, Mrs. Rosa Meyers Mumma, of Alabama, Mrs. Susan M. Africa, and William K. Meyers, both of this city. Nine grand children also survive her.
One who knew her well said last night:
"Mrs. Meyers bore these years of weary suffering with utmost patience, a complaint never passing her lips. Her life was spent in unobtrusive charity, devotion to her home and church.
She planned and instituted a Mite Society, which she was president of many years, in connection with other church work.
Mrs. Meyers will be remembered by those in all walk of life, years from now, through her affable, genial manner and her ever ready willingness to aid those in need and distress."
