Information from Terry G. Temple, 15 Hidden Lake Drive, Powderly, TX, 75473, email [email protected], on Aug. 26, 2000: Jehu M. 'Zeke' Gordon died on 23 July 1898, in Lamar County, Texas and was buried in Gordon Cemetery, Lamar County, Texas Cemetery. He was born 21 September 1826, in Harrisonburg, Rockingham County, Virginia, and was the son of John Davis Gordon, born 18 December 1792, died 13 November 1849 and Nancy Warren, born 12 July 1799, died 13 January 1862. Jehu was married ca. 1859, to A. E. (surname unknown) in Johnson County, KS. Their child was: 1. John David Gordon, b. 9 June 1861, d. 3 Sept. 1938. Jehu lived in Harrisonburg, Rockingham County, Virginia, until about 1854 (1850 census of Rockingham County, VA). He moved to Kansas in the late 1850's and married A. E. (surname unknown) and they were living in Shawnee Township, Johnson County, Kansas at the time of the 1860 census. His wife died before 1865, as the 1865 state census of Kansas shows his son John David Gordon residing with friends in Johnson County. In 1870, Jehu and his son were shown as a household in the 1870 census of Johnson County, Kansas. He moved to Lamar County, Texas by 1880, and his son John David Gordon was married here on 1 December 1880. They lived in the Hinckley community in Lamar County. He was buried in Gordon Cemetery near Hinckley, which was probably destroyed by the development of the Beaver Creek addition. Dates of birth and death from his parents' family Bible, a photocopy of which is in my possession; the original is in the possession of Ruth (Cochran) Marr, who resides in Paris, Texas.
