BRISTOL, Tenn. Leroy Dean Akers, 81, passed away Monday, June 3, 2013, unexpectedly at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born in Abingdon, Va., on Oct. 6, 1931, a son of the late Ed and Pearl Akers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Pruitt Akers; and brother, C. E. Akers. Leroy is survived by his children, Jerry Akers and wife Ruth of Bristol, Va., Kathy Thomas of Johnson City, Tenn., Venida Kelly of Hayters Gap, Va., and Dion Akers and wife Crystal of Bristol, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth Akers of Abingdon and Eugene Akers of Bristol, Va.; and sister, Nellie Hay of Abingdon. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Blevins Funeral and Cremation Services. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor Jackie Cox officiating. The committal service and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2013, at Mountain View Cemetery.
