In 1880 William was a granite cutter in Chico, Butte Co., California with his brother John Robbie and John Bruce. In 1900 he was the proprietor of a granite works residing on 1st Street between Chestnut and Hazel with his wife Hattie and five children.

In 1910 he lived in Chico with Henrietta and children Josie L., John W., Mary, and Elsie.

In 1920 he was a stone cutter in Chico with his wife Henrietta and children John and Mary.

"William Robbie came from Scotland, establishing Chico Granite and Marble Works in Chico in 1879.

"The business sat on the corner of East First and Main streets until new owners moved it to Mangrove Avenue, near Fifth Avenue, after the downtown corner was promised to Union Oil for a gas station.

"Its location was where the downtown 7-Eleven now sits [SE corner of First and Main Streets]. Robbie had a long history in Chico, including a stint as mayor. His name is listed on the old Municipal Building." Source: Chico Enterprise-Record, Chico, Butte County, California. August 6, 2006.
