I have seen the wife of Conrad Crump listed as follows:
2. Elizabeth Bobbett
3. Elizabeth Lacey
4. Motleney Unknown
5. Matleney Hesse
Conrad Crump, Hessian soldier, did not marry Elizabeth Bobbett. Elizabeth Bobbett married Conrad Crump's grandson, Conrad (son of Henry), Crump, in Mecklenburg County during the 1840s. That's where that mistake came from.
Some people say that Conrad Crump, immigrant, married (1) Elizabeth Lacey and (2) Matleney/Motleney Unknown/Hesse. There is some question as to which children, if any, were mothered by Elizableth, and which by Matleney.
Daniel Kramm was one of the 17 children baptized by Adam Nikolaus Marcard at Crooked Creek, Mecklenburg County, N.C., during the service "the 18th Sunday after Trinity, Novemmber 11, 1798". His parents were listed as Konrad and wife, Marie M., and his sponsers were Louis Kante and wife Elizabeth. Daniel's birthday was given as Oct 15,1797.
Some of the other children baptized that day were: Daniel Herche, born 13 Nov. 1797, son of Johann and Elizabeth; and Marie Herche, born 17 Mar 1797, daughter of Heinrich and Marie.
Among those who took partook of Holy Communion on the same day were Konrad Kramm (now known as Conrad Crump) & Marie Magdalene Kramm (Crump); Heinrich Herche and Marie Herche.
From Mecklenburg County, N.C. deeds, book 14, #1838: 12 Jan 1793, Martin (H) Herche, Senr, an wf Catherine (x) to Henry Herche, for L112.10.0, 140 acres on McAlpine Cr. adj. Andrew Wens, William Query, Lewis Hert, and Saml. Black. WIT: Tobias Theophilus and Conrad Crump. Prvd in Jan 1793 Ct. by Conrad Crump. Isaac Alexander, CMC.
Cabarrus County, N.C. (undated): This day came Catherine Herkey (widow) personally before me, one of the Justices of the Peace in and for Cabarrus County and made oath that Conrad Crump was married to Matleney Hesse by the Reverend Wm. Nusman (spelling unclear); about 40 years ago the said Hesses wife said she was a daughter of Philip Lasher (possibly Sashee) of the Sate of Pennsylvania who died between fifty or sixty years ago.
In the list of people buried in the Crump/Lingle Cemetery in Caldwell County, N.C., is "Conrad Crump b. 1753-d. Sept. 18, 1836", and "Motleney Lasher Crump (wife of Conrad Crump)".
I think the Herche/Herkey family were good friends with the Kramm/Crump family, and that 'Matleney/Motleney in the above statements was derived from the name 'Magdalene". Perhaps Magdalene/Matleney/Motleney Lasher, daughter of Philip Lasher, was married to a man named Hesse before she married Conrad Crump.
