DR. RENKEN DIES AT RESIDENCE

Taken Ill at Grid Game; Services Monday

Dr. Paul W. Renken, New Orleans ophthalmologist died Saturday at 3:40 p.m. at his residence, 154 Audubon Blvd.

He became ill while attending the Louisiana State University - Tulane University football game and, in company with another physician, returned to his home where he died.

Funeral Services will be conducted Monday at the House of Bultman, 3338 St. Charles, followed by religious services at Christ Church Cathedral. Time of the services had not been determined Saturday night. Interment will be in Metairie Cemetery.

Dr. Renken, a native of Texas, was born near San Antonio and attended the University of Texas in Austin.

After graduation in 1927, he came to New Orleans and entered the Tulane University School of Medicine, graduating in 1931.

He was associated with Drs. Horace B. Dozier and Dale Archer.

SERVED WITH NAVY

During World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy at a base hospital in the Pacific theater. He held the rank of captain in the U.S. Naval Reserve.

Dr. Renken was an associate professor in the Tulane School of Medicine and president of the New Orleans Academy of Ophthalmology.

He was a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology, the Southern Medical Society, the Louisiana State Medical Society and the Louisiana-Mississippi Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology Society.

AVID SPORTSMAN

He was also a member of the Pickwick Club and the New Orleans Yacht Club.

He was the surgeon in charge of the eye department of the Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat hospital and was also on the staff of Baptist Hospital.

Dr. Renken was an avid sportsman and took part in the Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo each year, serving on various committees.

He is survived by his widow, the former Helene Hayward; a daughter, Mrs. Robert. L. McKee, New Orleans; a sister, Mrs. L. W. Moomaw of Dover Air Force Base, Del; and his mother, Mrs. Tillie Renken of San Antonio.
