A well-known and respected California citizen, Bandini received his education in Lima and may have moved to California around 1819. In 1822 he married Dolores Estudillo, moved to San Diego in 1827 and in 1830, filled in as a substitute congressman. In 1833 he was appointed Vice President of the Hijar colonization company and became inspector of customs for California. From 1845 through 1846, he served as Governor Pico's secretary. Bandini's former home (built in 1829) and known as Casa de Bandini, once served as the social center of San Diego. The home has recently housed one of San Diego's finest Mexican restaurants. Over the years the house served as a hotel, store and pickle factory and is not beconsidered once again, as a hotel. His body rests near those of his daughter Arcadia (often described as the most beautiful woman in California) and her husband, Abel Stearns; his second wife Refugia - with whom he had three sons and two daughters.
