EARLY SETTLER PASSES AWAY
Henry Grimm, Son Of First Couple Married In Blair Passes Away Saturday, Dec. 31 At Home Of Sister, Mrs. Anna Petersen

Henry Grimm, well know resident of Blair, passed away at the home of his sister, Mrs. Anna Petersen of Lincoln street on Saturday, December 31st after a long illness.
Deceased was born February 27, 1870 on the farm just east of the city. Here he grew to manhood and continued to make his home until his last illness when he went to live with his sister who cared for him, doing everything possible to make him comfortable in his last hours.
Henry was the oldest of the family, and leaves to mourn him five brothers: Ed, J. Hannis and Louie of Blair and Dr. Arthur Grimm of New York City and Dr. P. G. Grimm of Spirit Lake, Ia. and one sister, Mrs. Anna Petersen of Blair.
The Grimm family belongs to that early age when history was in the making. The father came here in the pioneer days landing here in 1866, and he and Mrs. Grimm had the honor of being the first couple to be married in Blair.
Deceased graduated from the Blair schools ion 1888, and from that time on gave his attention to farming, which was his vocation through life. He was always a Blair booster and was one of the founders of Blair’s gas plant in 1909, and also of the Blair Oil Company. He served for years on the city council and faithfully represented the best interests of the city. Always honest and ready to champion the cause of the needy, he had a host of friends who will remember him with the kindliest of feelings.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Bendorf Funeral home with Rev. A. F. Newell of the local Congregational church officiating, and interment was made in the Blair cemetery.
