Edward E. Madix, 63, of Decatur died 10:40 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 11, 2000) in his residence.
Burial will be in Mount Gilead Cemetery.
Mr. Madix was born in Loda on Aug. 17, 1936, the son of Sylvester and Lauretta McGreal Madix.
Mr. Madix was a charter member of Holy Family Catholic Church, a Eucharistic Minister and was very involved in the
church. He was an outstanding athlete at Tuscola High School, where he
graduated in 1954. He graduated from Eastern Illinois University in
Charleston with a bachelor's and master's degree, was a four-year
letterman, was a member of the EIU Letterman's Club and was a member of
TKE Fraternity. Mr. Madix taught and coached at Macon High School for
seven years from 1958 to 1965. He taught at Stephen Decatur High School
from 1966 to 1993, where he was head track and cross country coach and
was the department head, designing and implementing the Driver Education
Range Facility. Ed was named Track Coach of the Year in 1972. He was a
track and field official for IHSA and each year attended as a finish
judge at the State Track and Field Finals. He was a member of St. Mary's
Hospital Auxiliary and a board member of the Macon County School
Employee's Federal Credit Union.
He is survived by his wife; father and mother of Pekin; a daughter, son, and grandchildren, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
