Thelma L. (Nipper) Farris, 88, of McLeansboro, died 12:25 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. She was born Sept. 7, 1924, in Hamilton County, the daughter of Joseph Henry and Jinkie (McMahan) Allen. She was married to Wilburn Nipper, Harry Porter and Robert F. Farris, who all preceded her in death. She worked at the former Elder Manufacturing Co. in McLeansboro and worked as a nurse aid at the Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center in McLeansboro. She was a member of Lick Creek Baptist Church near McLeansboro. She is survived by sons, Larry Dean (wife Carol) Nipper of McLeansboro, Paul David (wife Sue) Nipper of Georgia and Rickey (wife Penny) Nipper of Georgia; daughters, Rosella Webb of McLeansboro, Shirley (husband Jerry) Graham of Acworth, Ga., Judy Savage of McLeansboro, Janice (husband Curtis) Ford of McLeansboro and Vickie (husband Bob) Heriges of Henderson, Ky.; siblings, Bobby Gene Allen of McLeansboro and Ruby Scarber of Farmington, N.M.; 24 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; two sons, Gary and Kenneth Nipper; one brother, John Franklin Allen; and four sisters, Bonnie, Lillie, Fay and Alice. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Mike Fields officiating. Interment will be at Prospect Cemetery near McLeansboro. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. today at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
