DEATH OF MISS HERRICK - Dies at Her Home on South Fourth Street After a Brief Illness
After an illness of only a few days, Miss Martha Herrick died Monday evening at her home on South Fourth street. She had been ailing for some time, but her condition was not thought to be serious until last Friday, since which time it had been feared that the end was near. She was nearly 70 year old, and her age probably hastened her death.
Miss Herrick leaves many relatives to mourn her loss: four brothers, George, a bachelor, with whom she made her home; Samuel of Second avenue; E. L. Herrick of South Second, all of Rockford, and Edward of Newell, Iowa, and a sister, Miss Hannah J. Herrick, who lives with Samuel Herrick, survive, besides other more distant relatives.
Miss Herrick was born in Andover, Mass., June 1, 1829. Her parents were also natives of the same place, her ancestors having been resident of Massachusetts for many years. She came to this city with her parents in 1839, and has lived here ever since. She resided at the old homestead until eight years ago, when she moved to the home of her brother, where she lived until the time of her death. She was a member of the First Congregational church for 40 years.
The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon from the house, at 369 South Fourth street, Rev. Painter, officiating.
