OBIT: Mrs. Hobart Basham Is Called by Death. Orleans Resident Passes Away Suddenly Last Night After Illness. Mrs. Hobert Basham of the Orleans community passed away suddenly last night at her home south of Orleans. Mrs. Basham had been in ill health for some time but her death last night was unexpected. Coroner E O Sample was notified of the death and this morning began an investigation. The body was taken to the Gilham Funeral Home.
OBIT: Inquire Into Death of Mrs. H W Basham. Jury Finds Myocarditis is Cause; Funeral Will be Tuesday Afternoon. The death of Mrs. Essie Lee Basham, which occurred at 11:30 o'clock Saturday night at her home a mile south of Orleans, was due to myocarditis, a coroner's jury determined at an inquest held at the Gillham Funeral Home at 11:30 o'clock Sunday morning. Members of the jury were Wm Gilbert, Walter Eyre, FL Ledferd, JL Campbell, Oyer Wright, and J L Roberts. Essie Lee Stapleton was born at Lee Valley, Tenn., Aug 14, 1900, a daughter of E C and Minnie Bell Stapleton. She was married to Hobert W Basham Aug 16, 1917. She is survived by one daughter, Marguerite Basham, at home. She leaves also her father, E C Stapleton, of Alexander; 2 brothers and one sister, Walter Stapleton and Mrs. Emily Bruker, both of Alexander, and Kenneth Stapleton of this city. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon from Gillham Funeral Home, in charge of Rev M L Pontius, with interment in Diamond Grove Cemetery. The remains are at the residence, and will be returned to the funeral home an hour before the service.
