Robert Bellis | Hansen-Spear Funeral Home - Quincy, ILHe was born December 22, 1920 in Enid, OK the son of Joseph and Eathel Hiett Bellis. On June 24, 1950 he married Dorothy Mae Larimore in Payson, IL. She preceded him in death January 25, 2011.
He graduated from Monmouth High School and attended Monmouth College for 2 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 – 1946 and served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. Mr. Bellis was a manager at Bowman Shoe Company for 42 years.
He was a member of Vermont Street United Methodist Church, Rotary, Kiwanis, and the Elks Lodge. He was a musician who played for 15 years in the Heidelburg German Band and for 17 years on the Mark Twain Riverboat Dinner Cruises. One of his favorite hobbies was oil-painting.
Survivors include: a daughter, Kathy Galvan of Albuquerque, NM; 3 sons, Phil (Pamela) Bellis, Dave (Carri) Bellis, of Quincy,and Grant (Nancy) Bellis, of Bloomington, IL; 11 grandchildren, Gabe and Granger Galvan; Emily, Elaina, Olivia and Avery Bellis; Drake, Eric and Chloe Bellis, and J.R. and Wrigley Bellis; a sister, Shirley Dillon of Quincy. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Elizabeth McMahon, and Lula Mulane, a brother, Lindel Bellis, a brother-in-law George Dillon, a daughter-in-law, Anita Bellis, and a granddaughter Christy Bangert.
Services: 11:00 am Wednesday (May 22, 2013) at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Disseler officiating.
Visitation: 5:00 – 7:00 pm Tuesday (May 21, 2013) at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
Burial: Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois
Memorials: Good Samaritan Home or Vermont St. Methodist Church
