Leona A. Weaver, 91, of Iowa City, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Oaknoll Retirement Residence following a lengthy illness.
Leona was born on June 14, 1921, in Newport Township, rural Johnson County, IA, the daughter of George and Rose (Sedlacek) Greazel. On August 8, 1944, Leona married Gregory Weaver at St. Wenceslaus.
Leona was a lifelong resident of Johnson County. She also was a longtime member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church (where for a number of years she was in charge of the funeral luncheons), the St. Wenceslaus Altar & Rosary Society, The Catholic Order of Foresters, and The Catholic Daughters of America. Leona was also known as a tremendous baker and was famous for her kolaches and angel food cakes.
Survivors include her two daughters: Diana Wagner (James) of Iowa City, and Linda McClure (Daniel) of Rockville, MD; a grandson Matthew Wagner (Emily) of Seattle, WA, a granddaughter Robin Reasoner (Robert) of Orinda, CA, and three great-granddaughters: Raiden, Rowan and Rocklyn Reasoner.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers: Robert, Richard, Joseph, Lewis and Victor; and her sister Clara Dohrer.
