DAVENPORT - Private family graveside services for Darwin E. Cloe, of Davenport, were held on Thursday, July 13, 2006, at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. The body was cremated as was his request. Cunnick-Collins Mortuary and Cremation Service assisted the family with arrangements. Mr. Cloe died on Sunday, July 9, 2006, at his home in Davenport following an extended illness. Darwin Erwin Cloe was born on April 13, 1921, to Howard and Hazel (Hidlebaugh) Cloe in Rural Guthrie County, Iowa. During World War II he served as a Quartermaster in the United States Navy. Following his military obligations, he enrolled at the University of Iowa where he received his degree in pharmacy and pharmacology. It was there that he met his future wife. Following graduation, he moved to Davenport and married Elinor F. Jones on September 2, 1950. He also began work that year as a pharmacist and retired from the Main & Locust Pharmacy in 1985 after 35 years of service. Mr. Cloe enjoyed gardening and playing golf in his spare time. Survivors include his wife, Elinor, of Davenport; four daughters, Lynn Day, of Davenport, Karen Zelski, of Clearwater, Fla., Wendy Cloe, of Centennial, Colo., and Paula Post, of Blue Grass, Iowa; one son, Gary Cloe, of Aledo, Ill.; a brother, Howard Cloe, of Des Moines, Iowa; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both of his parents.
