Amanda J Landrum was born in Halifax Virginia in 1823. She married John C Rice on May 6, 1843 in Halifax. She and John had one child while living in Virginia, Mary Elizabeth born in 1844. John and Amanda then moved to Tennessee where they had two more children, Anna J, born in 1846 and Richard T, born in 1848. Sometime after 1848, John and Amanda moved to Callaway County, Missouri near Holts Summit. There they had 4 more children; William James in 1849, John Henry in 1851, Amanda in 1856, and Treesa in 1857.
John and Amanda owned and farmed a piece of land in the South West corner of Callaway County near Holts Summit. John was listed in the census data as a farmer and Amanda as a housewife. They both were members of the Union Hill Baptist Church in Holts Summit.
Sometime between 1857 and 1860, Amanda died of unknown causes. She was buried in Callaway County but the exact location is unknown. Since she and John were both life long members of the Union Hill Baptist church it is believed that she is buried there, in an unmarked grave, along with several of her children.
Her husband John C Rice remarried and moved to Texas County Missouri where he died and was buried.
