James Madison Countz, 92, of Indianola died May 24 at his home. Born August 16, 1920, in London, Ark., he was the son of Buena Rue and Stella Mae (Burnett) Countz. His family moved to Indianola when he was 12. He lived on his farmland of Choate Prairie. He married Billie Dean Sanders July 10, 1940, in Eufaula. James raised his family in the Choate Prairie Baptist Church where he served as deacon, Sunday school director and Sunday school teacher. Most recently he was a member of Indianola Baptist Church where he has served as deacon and as the men's Sunday school teacher. Through his years as a farmer, he raised cotton, soybeans, peanuts, wheat and cattle. He was recognized as Master Agronomist by Oklahoma State University. He served on many boards and committees affiliated with the ASCS, Farm Home Administration, Oklahoma Peanut Commission and the Pittsburg County Excise Board. He drove the bus for Indianola Schools for 20 years beginning when his son Taylor started school and retiring when his daughter Deanna graduated. He enjoyed his grandchildren and his hobbies were visiting and gardening. He is survived by son, James Taylor Countz and wife, Barbara, of Indianola; daughter, Deanna Countz-Adams and husband, John, of Indianola; brother, Robert Countz, of McAlester; grandsons, James D. Countz and wife, Donna, of Savanna, Thomas Christopher Countz and wife Deanna, of McAlester; Johnny William Warren and wife, Jennifer,of Grovetown, Ga.; granddaughter, Amanda L. Adams-Landry and husband, Marlon of McAlester; grandson, David Lee Adams and wife, Jamie, of Muskogee; great grandchildren; Krystle Elaine Countz, Stuart; James Wesley Countz, Savanna; Joshua Caleb Countz, Savanna, Railey Elise Warren, of Grovetown, Ga, Leighton Gabrielle Warren, of Grovetown, Ga., Noah Addison Landry, of McAlester, Malachi James Landry, of McAlester, Meleah Nicole Adams, of Muskogee, John Isaac Adams, of Muskogee; great-great grandchildren, Payton Bennett, of Stuart, Jaxton Countz, of Stuart; nieces and nephews: Carolyn Sanders, of McAlester, Peggy Campbell, of McAlester, and Michael Sanders, of Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Buena Rue and Stella Mae Countz; wife, Billie Dean (Sanders) Countz, in 2006; grandson, Robert Michael Countz; brothers-in-law, William Howard Sanders and Dee Sanders; sisters-in-law, Lucille Sanders and Irene Countz; and a nephew, Johnny Dee Sanders. Active pallbearers will be, James D. Countz, Thomas C. Countz, David L. Adams, Marlon D. Landry, and Johnny W. Warren. Funeral services are today at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Indianola officiated by the Rev. Paul Jones and David Adams. Interment will follow at Countz Family Cemetery, Indianola. Funeral services are under direction of Bishop Funeral Service.
