Services for George D. Nicholson, age 95 who died Sunday, October 18 at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha were Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Blair. Rev. Russell Terman officiated with interment in the Blair Cemetery.

George D. Nicholson was born in Omaha on September 10, 1897 to Danish immigrants John and Christine Larsen Nicholson. He lived his early childhood in the Nickerson-Fremont areas. He started farming in South Dakota in 1918 and also homesteaded in the Douglas, Wyoming area in the early 1920s. He retired after 50 years of farming near Blair.

He married Velma Louise Hicks on July 25, 1925 in Dunlap, Iowa. That marriage lasted 52 years until the time of Velma’s death in 1977. He was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Blair. George was a resident of the Maple-Crest Care Center in Omaha.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Allen Kohlmier of Omaha, Nebraska; son and daughter-in-law, Morton and Barbara Nicholson of Cincinnati, Ohio; five grandchildren; then great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

According to her obituary, Ms Christine had 4 sisters and two brothers with one sister, Esther, surviving her. Please note that the 1900 census indicates that she was from a family consisting of 8 children, but that one had passed away by 1900.
