Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Big Springs Baptist Church in rural Alcester, with the Rev. Daryl Runion officiating. Burial will be in Big Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Wass Funeral Home in Alcester.
Mr. Winquist was born Oct. 7, 1914, in rural Union County, S.D., the son of Charles and Signe (Cedergren) Winquist. He attended Dodd School and Alcester High School, then later began farming.
He married Cleo Joustra on Aug. 29, 1940, in rural Akron, Iowa. The couple moved to the Sioux City area and later farmed in the Akron and Big Springs areas. In 1978, they moved into Alcester.
He was a member of Big Springs Baptist Church, where he was a church trustee, the Alcester's Lion's Club and served on the Big Springs Cemetery board. He enjoyed camping.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Lynda and Harlow Johnson and Cynthia and Samuel Gates, all of Alcester; five grandchildren, Jason, Hayley and Mindy Johnson, John and Kyle Gates; and two brothers, Wallace of Portland, Ore. and Elwood and his wife Lois of Akron.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn and one brother, Quinton.
Pallbearers will be Jason Johnson, John and Kyle Gates, Roger Sonichsen, and Tim Winquist.
