American Impressionist Painter. Known as G Ruger Donoho, he was the son of Robert Donoho, a Mississippi planter, and Jula Sophia Ruger. By time of War Between the States his father was dead and General Ruger, a relative of his mother, moved the young Ruger and his mother to Vicksburg. After the war, Ruger and his mother moved to Washington, DC. In 1876, he moved to study art in New York. He moved to Paris in 1878 to continue his study of art. After a decade he returned to New York and in 1894 married Matilda Ackley of Pennsylvania. In New York, Ruger Donoho became a pioneer in the East Hampton artistic community. Today his works are displayed at the Brooklyn Museum, The Metropolitan Museum, the Smithsonian, and the Mississippi Museum of Art.
