Marvin Dean Shurtliff, 93, passed away May 22, 2013, in Idaho Falls, at Turtle & Crane Assisted Living Center.

Marvin, the fifth of eight children, was born September 22, 1919, in Iona, Idaho, to Thomas Iera Shurtliff and Mayme Smith Shurtliff. He grew up and attended schools in Iona and graduated from Iona High School in 1938.

On January 6, 1941, he married his sweetheart, Wanda McGavin, the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. In April, 1944, Marv was inducted into the United States Army and fought in the 104th Infantry Division during World War II. He was a brave soldier and a great leader who remained true to his values to God and the country he loved.

After the war, Marv enrolled in barber college in Salt Lake City, Utah, and graduated in 1946. For 38 years he owned and operated Marv's Barber Shop on First Street in Idaho Falls, and served for many years on the Idaho State Barber Board. His customers enjoyed the time spent with Marv. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed and appreciated them all so much. Many still remember those happy times at the barber shop.

Marv was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a devoted husband, father, son, and brother. His wife and children always came first and he was truly loved and adored by his brothers and sisters. His beloved wife, Wanda, passed away December 3, 2004.
