J.W. "Bill" Castleman, 90 of Centralia, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Saint Louis University Hospital in St. Louis.
Bill was born February 5, 1923 in Carbondale, son of John Porter Castleman and Catherine (Flynn) Castleman. He married Mildred Webster on December 9, 1945 at First Baptist Church in Centralia.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine, one daughter and her husband, three nephews and their wives and one niece and her husband.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Clyde Castleman and Richard Castleman.
Bill was a graduate of Centralia Township High School. He was a member of the 1941 Hall of Fame Orphan Wonder 5 Basketball Team. Bill is in the Illinois Hall of Fame and a VIP in the Centralia Hall of Fame. He enjoyed playing all sports from Basketball, baseball and golf. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Centralia. He he worked for the City of Centralia for 28 years and was the Superintendent for the City of Centralia Public Works for 14 years. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 25, 2013 at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
