William G. Varner, age 78, of Tekamah, passed away early on Thursday morning, Dec. 22, 1988, at the Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, Nebraska.

Bill was born on Feb. 2, 1910, at Treynor, Iowa, to Erskine and Iva Mae (Alstot) Varner. Bill moved to Tekamah in the mid-1950's and worked as Jailer and Custodian for the Burt County Courthouse for over twenty-five years.

Survivors include three sisters; Margaret Sorrell of Englewood, California, Frances Ebel of Sioux City, Iowa and Nancy Bobbs of Moueaqua, Illinois; several nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, one brother (Clarence Varner) and one sister (Mae Pallas).

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 1988, at the Hamel & Peck Funeral Home in Tekamah with Rev. Marion H. Knoell officiating. Interment was in the Dakota City Cemetery at Dakota City, Nebraska.
