Helen M. Banks, 99, a lifelong Montpelier resident died early Monday evening at Evergreen Manor Nursing Home in Montpelier, two days shy of her 100th birthday. She was born on May 22, 1913 near Montpelier to Roy L. and Hattie L. (McLain) Creek. On December 29, 1929 she married Chester H. Banks; he preceded her in death on January 28, 1983.

Helen was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Montpelier. She was a homemaker, taking care of her husband and six children.

She is survived by two sons, Darrell (Bonnie) Banks of Peoria, Arizona and Dennis (Betty) Banks of Montpelier; two daughters, June Oyer of Montpelier, and Donna (Wilbur) Hinton of Napoleon, Ohio; daughter-in-law Jeanette Banks of Bryan, Ohio; 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and numerous great, great grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Chester, infant son Roger Banks, son Donald Banks, daughter Ardith Gearhart, sister Ethel Burcham and brother Andrew Creek.

Visitation hours for Helen will be on Thursday May 23rd from 4-8pm at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Montpelier. Services will be Friday at 11am at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with Reverend Bruce Tumblin to officiate. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier.
