Stephen Pospisil, 91, of Wilber died Friday, May 1, 1998 at the Wilber Care Center.

He was born December 26, 1906 to Henry and Jennie H. (Jelinek) Pospisil in Wilber. He grew up in Wilber and graduated from Wilber High School in 1930. He taught school in Bertrand and Wymore before entering the Navy during World War II for four years. He returned to Wilber where he taught and coached basketball, two years going to the state tournament. He married L. Marie Wittenbach on July 17, 1946 at Grace Lutheran Church in Lincoln. They lived in Wilber and owned and operated Wilber Variety Store for 26 years. He retired in 1989.

He was a member of Rotary, receiving the Honorary Member Status in 1994; First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wilber School Board, Wilber School bus driver, City Council, American Legion Louis Milan Post 101, Boys SFS Little League Baseball program, volunteer fireman for many years, Masonic Lodge member for 60 years, and Dvoracek Memorial Library Board. He received the 1973 Centennial Commemoration Award for the service given to the City of Wilber, Boy Scouts of American representative.

He is survived by his wife, L. Marie; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Pam Pospisil of Wilber; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Michael Hroch of Wilber; grandchildren, Jennifer Hroch, Hillary and husband Doug Hayek, Aaron, Brian, and Michael Pospisil Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Stanley Pospisil, and nephew, Jerry Pospisil.

Services were held May 4 at Zajicek Funeral Home in Wilber.
