Donald S. White, 85, former RU basketball coach

WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Donald S. White, 85, of Ministration Boulevard died Tuesday at home.
Born in Lebanon, Ind., he lived in St. Louis, Mo., Storrs, Conn., and New Brunswick, N.J., before returning to Indiana in 1966.
He was a basketball coach for Washington University, St. Louis, the University of Connecticut, and Rutgers University, New Brunswick, before his retirement.
As a player, he was on the Lebanon High School State Championship Team in 1917 and 1918. He later played for Purdue University. In 1965 he was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in Indianapolis, and in 1967, he was elected to Purdue University's Hall of Fame for the year of 1921. He held and all-time Big Ten individual record for points scored in 1921. He was selected by the Helmes Athletic Association as guard from the Big Ten schools in 1921.
He served as a State Department specialist in preparing the Thailand national basketball team for the 1956 Olympics.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of New Brunswick.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Nina Fall White; two daughters, Betty Jewett of East Brunswick, N.J., and Ann Stewart of Pittsburg, Calif.; a brother, Richard of Wichita Falls, Texas; two sisters, Virginia Gooding of Indianapolis and Lola Green of Albuquerque, N.M.; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow in the Chamness Funeral Home, Warsaw.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
