He was a native of Cocke County, Tenn. , and he had lived in Madison County
since 1940 .in' Mars Hill the past five years. He was an Army veteran of World
War II where he served from Jan. 15, 1941 to Aug. 25, 1945 and was a member of
Mars Hill VFW Post No. 5802. He was a son of the late William and Nina
Franklin Talton. He also was preceded in death by sons, Verlin, Billy and Alvin.
He is survived by wife, Ethel Gosnell Talton of the home; sons, Joe Talton of
Tennessee, Donnie Talton of Hendersonville, Jack, Jerry and Roger Talton, and
daughters, Linda Wallin, Virginia Wallin, all of Marshall, Darlene Talton of
Alabama; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchilOren; brothers, Joe, Ralph, LV,
Dewey and Wallace; and sisters, Roselie, Jean, Betty Rush and Etta, all of
Tennessee; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at Capps Funeral Home
chapel with the Revs. Michael Freeman and John Brown officiating. Burial will be
in Gosnell Cemetery on Lonesome Mountain Road.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p. m. Wednesday at the funeral
home. At other times, the family will be at the home, 23 Cemetery Drive.
