It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joni Hawley.
Joni was a lifelong resident of the South Bay. She grew up in Manhattan Beach where she enjoyed beach life. She lived briefly in Cave Junction, OR. She graduated from Mira Costa High School in 1971 and attended Long Beach State. She became a certified medical assistant, working for Dr. Sommer and Dr. Hosseini in Redondo Beach, where she was loved by the patients she helped. She also helped stray
dogs and cats by fostering them in her home until permanent homes could be found.

Joni is survived by her son, Caley (Becky) Miller; and granddaughter,Isla of San Diego; sisters, Judy Deatherage of Latrobe, CA, and Nancy Hawley-Barras of Manhattan Beach; brother, Bill Hawley of Medford, OR; nephew, Cole Barras of Manhattan Beach, along with 12 other nieces and
nephews.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Louise; father, Bill; stepfather, Bill O'Rourke; and sister, Kathy "Susie" Winer. A memorial will he held on the beach at 10th St. in Manhattan Beach on January 15, 2011 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your local animal shelter.
