| Birth: | Feb. 6, 1833 | | Death: | Sep. 15, 1907 |  Civil War Confederate Brigadier General. He was a Mississippi lawyer, newspaperman and politician. At the start of the Civil War, he enlisted in the Confederate 1st Mississippi Battalion, rose through the ranks from Private to Captain and participated in the Battle of Shiloh. Promoted to Colonel in August, 1863, he led a brigade at Chickamauga and the Battle of Missionary Ridge. In July, 1864, he was promoted Brigadier General, participated in the Tennessee campaigns and surrendered following the Carolinas Campaigns in April, 1965. After the war, he resumed his legal career and served in the Mississippi House of Representatives. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
