Robert Vinkler Richardson
Birth: Nov. 4, 1820
Death: Jan. 6, 1870

Civil War Confederate Brigadier General. Born in Granville County, North Carolina, he was admitted to the bar in 1847 and commenced law practice in Memphis, Tennessee. At the start of the Civil War, he was recruited by the 12th Tennessee Cavalry and was elected Colonel. He engaged in the Battle of Shiloh, Siege of Corinth and was promoted Brigadier General in December 1863. In February 1864, Confederate President Jefferson Davis confirmed his nomination to the Confederate Senate, where he served for the remainder of the war. After the war, he returned to Memphis and worked in railroad construction. On January 5, 1870, he was shot by an unknown assailant at a tavren in Clarkton, Missouri and died the next day. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
