ATHENS - Richard E. Henning, 55, of Athens died Friday, May 27, 2005, at Memorial Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 29, 1949, in Springfield, the son of W. Emory and Marjorie Stabler Henning. He married Karla Engel in 1970 in Athens.

Mr. Henning graduated from Athens High School in 1968, Illinois State University in 1972 and Worsham College of Mortuary Science at Chicago in 1973. He was a funeral director at Mott and Henning Funeral Home for more than 32 years.

He was a volunteer for the Athens Fire Department for several years, a Lions Club charter member and past president, board member of Athens State Bank for several years, Joel Hall Cemetery treasurer for more than 30 years, member of the Menard County Housing Authority, Illinois Funeral Directors Association and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Sherman.

Survivors: wife, Karla; two daughters, Kim (husband, Brandon) Kiefer of Cedar Park, Texas, and Kara Henning of Athens; son, Rich (wife, Valerie) Henning of Athens; two sisters, Janet (husband, Larry) Brown of Hermosa Beach, Calif., and Alice (husband, Don) Washington of Athens; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Athens Christian Church, the Rev. Ken Gennicks, the Rev. James Stuenkel and the Rev. Robert Hanson officiating. Burial: Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens.

Mott and Henning Funeral Home in Athens is in charge of arrangements.
