Daughter of Ebenezer Babcock (1753 – 1790) and Betsey Field (1757 – 1864) of Milton. She married John Rand, who was born in Lunenburg, Massachusetts on December 17, 1781. He was 74 years old when he died in Milton, Massachusetts in 1855. His remains, with his wife's, were buried in an old cemetery in that town. In his youth, he lived in Beverly, Massachusetts, and at the age of 14, he went on a voyage to sea. Returning after the deaths of his parents, John came to Boston and served an apprenticeship of seven years, at the carriage and harness business. At 19 years old, he became interested in the Baptist Church.
In 1803, he married Betsey Babcock of Milton, Massachusetts.About the time of his marriage, he discovered the Christian sect and became a preacher of this new religion, splitting from the Baptist denomination.At the beginning of his evangelistic work, he served in Salem, Haverhill, and other places.
In 1806, he settled in Essex, Massachusetts and remained there until 1813. In 1814, he moved to Woodstock, Vermont. He also lived in Danville and Bradford, Vermont.
In 1822, John and Betsey moved to her home town of Milton, Massachusetts and remained there until his death.
In 1851, his wife Betsey died and John Rand despite being partially paralyzed lived until May 31, 1855.
