Son of Charles Nixon of NJ and Catharine Celestia Hanchett. After his father left for the gold rush in California post 1850, Luther became a farmer by trade. He inherited the family farm in Wadsworth but by 1886 went to Teegarden, Indiana where land was cheaper and more plentiful. He purchased land by his daughter and son in law, Lillian and Melanchthon Peters, told his wife Elizabeth McCoy Nixon to sell the old farm in Ohio, bring the rest of the kids and come to Indiana. Luther and Elizabeth, along with most of their children, lived out their lives in the Walkerton area, taking the B&O back and forth to Ohio to visit their large extended families. Luther died of "paralysis of the brain caused by a fall".

Gravesite Details

Headstone fading as of 2010, used a 1950s photo when it was in much better shape. Made of sandstone. My 3x great grandfather.
