Elmer Kennedy was born August 15, 1873, a son of Robert E. and Susan (Overstreet) Kennedy. He married Minnie Keeney in Hendricks County on October 17, 1897. The 1900 Census shows Elmer (age 27) and Minnie (age 27) with son Merlin C. (age 4 months) living in Union Township. The 1910 Census shows Elmer (age 38) and Minnie (age 39) living in Union Township with son Curtis (age 9), son Virl (age 8) and daughter Le Ora (age 2). The 1920 Census shows Elmer (age 46) as widowed and living in Union Township with sons Curtis (age 19) and Verl (age 18). The 1930 Census shows Elmer (age 56) living in Lizton by himself. The 1940 Census shows Elmer (age 66) living on Road 34 (now US 136) in Lizton with son E. Verl (age 38), daughter-in-law Carmolika (age 34) and grandchildren Ward (age 7) and Jo Ann (age 6).

Graveside services, in charge of Rev. James I. Shockley, of Danville, were Thursday afternoon in the K. of P. Cemetery, Lizton, for Elmer W. Kennedy, age 84, brother of Mrs. Vangie Leach of Danville.

Mr. Kennedy, a retired farmer, was living with his son, Verle, at Angola, since failing health compelled him to leave his home in Lizton. He died while visiting in Tuscola, Illinois.

He was the son of Emmett and Susan Overstreet Kennedy, and was born near Lizton. He was married to Minnie Keeney, who died when their three children were quite young. The daughter, Leora, was reared in the home of Mrs. David Tucker, an aunt, and her husband, near Jamestown and Mr. Kennedy cared for the two sons, Curtis and Verle.

He was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge in Lizton.

The daughter, Mrs. Leora Landrus, of Indianapolis, preceded her father in death. The sons, Curtis, of Tipton, and Verle, of Angola, and a brother, Dr. Otis Kennedy of Rushville, survive.
