| Birth: | Jan. 21, 1832 Rutherford County North Carolina, USA | | Death: | Jul. 24, 1862 Virginia, USA |  One of the 10 children of Christopher & Margaret Gordon Beam, Oliver Perry & his brother Marquis Lafayette Beam were farmers in Cleveland County, NC, when called to duty in the War of Northern Aggression.
21 November 1861 this handsome fellow enlised in Company I, the 38th Regiment of NC Troops (The Cleveland Marksmen) and was elected 3rd Lieutenant. 18 April 1862 he was elected 2nd Lieutenant. Wounded at Mechanicsville, VA, he lingered for more than a month before his death.
