Wayne Gaiser Berry, 66, of 4630 S. Pine St., died Monday in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Butler County, Pa., he was the husband of Eileen Ward Berry and son of the late Pryor and Effie Gaiser Berry. He was retired from the State Highway Department. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Glendale Masonic Lodge #271, New Castle, Pa., Consistary, Valley of New Castle, Worthy Patron of Eastern Star Glendale Chapter #175, member of Hejaz Shrine Temple, Hillbilly Clan #2, and Civil Air Patrol of Spartanburg. He was a World War II Army veteran having served in the South Pacific and received the Purple Heart.
Also surviving are six daughters, Janie Berry of the home, Elaine Layton of Roebuck, Elizabeth Gage of Spartanburg, Melinda Barnwell of Roebuck, Ruth Ann Brown of Pacolet and Alice McKelvey of Inma; a brother, Pryor O. Berry of Chicora, Pa.; a sister, Doris Lerch of Spartanburg; six grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Services, the Eastern Star rites, will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the chapel by the Revs. Everette Lineberger and Marion Clark. Burial with Masonic rites will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice, c/o Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, 101 E. Wood St., Spartanburg, S.C. 29303.
