Albert Lee Merrell was the son of William Lemuel and Ellinore B "Noda" (Bruce) Merrell. Sometime before 1900, Albert relocated from Hempstead County, Arkansas to West Texas. In the 1900 Ellis County, Texas census, Albert is listed as a boarder in the household of John and Etta Tucker. He and Tennie Johnson were married on March 23, 1910 in Loraine, Michell County, Texas. In 1911, they made a two day trip by horse drawn wagon from Colorado City, Mitchell County to Sterling City, arriving on March 21. Albert worked on the J. T. Davis Ranch for 23 years and in 1934 he went into the ranching business for himself. Albert and Tennie's children were: Travis Lee (1911-1984, Norene C. (1912-2008), Maudie Louise (1915-2004), Marvelletta (1917-2011), Albert Lewis (1921-1922) and Thomas Earl (1925 to present).
