Mrs. Mildred Elizabeth Corpening Taggert, 72, of route 2, Cleveland died Monday at Brian Center following a lengthy illness.

Born on Nov. 16,1915,in Bridgewater, she was a daughter of the late L. Horton and Nellie Lee Corpening.

She attended the public schools of Bridgewater, Morganton and Hickory. She was a graduate of Craig Beauty College in Philadelphia. Pa. and worked as a beautician in Lenoir. Morganton and Greensboro. In addition, she operated her own beauty shop in Hickory.

She attended Corpening AME Church in Bridgewater and Mt. Pisgah AME Church in Hickory. In Greensboro, she joined the St. Stephen Christian Church and upon moving to Cleveland she became a member of Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church (USA) where she served as chairperson of the Hunger Committee.

She was twice married. Her first husband, Hugh Horton, preceded her In death. as well as their daughter, Mildred La'Joie, and grandson, Reginald Keith Howard.

On April 8, 1957, she married Robert Lee Taggert, who survives.

In addition to her husband she is survived by four sisters. Mrs. Ethel Hamilton of Greensboro Mrs. Lillian Crowell and Mrs. Nellie Taylor, both of Philadelphia, Pa., and Mrs. Vivian Frazier of Kinston, two aunts; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church by, Rev. Joe Louis Spears and Rev. Clyde Cowan. Burial will follow in the Olive Hill Cemetery in Morganton.

The body will remain at the Davis and Mangum Mortuary until taken to the church to lie in state one hour prior to the funeral service.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and at other times will assemble at the residence.
