He was born in Rowan County on Feb. 9, 1922, to the late Luther and Emma Cowan Torrence.
He attended Iredell County Schools and was employed at Statesville Plywood until he retired.
Mr. Torrence was married to Queenester Hall Torrance, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are one daughter, Jonathan T. Studevent of the home; two brothers, Merlin Torrence of Rowan County and Barrent Torrance of Statesville.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Mary B. Bigham Memorial Chapel at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home. Dr. J.C. Harris will officiate and burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the funeral service Wednesday and will assemble at the residence at other times.
