Funeral services for Gladys E. Sifrit, 89, of Estherville will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 12 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel in Estherville with the Reverend Joel Jorgensen officiating. Interment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Estherville. She died on Sunday, July 8, 2001 at Avera Holy Family Health in Estherville.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.
Gladys was born on July 14, 1911 in Etherville, the daughter of John L. and Alma (Bloomquist) Barlow. She received her education in the Estherville Schools.
On Aug. 21, 1927, Gladys was united in marriage to Joe Sifrit in Spirit Lake. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Estherville. She was a homemaker all her life. Joe died March 16, 1976.
Due to failing health, Gladys had been a resident at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake since Jan. 5, 1998 and the the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville since June 18, 2001.
She enjoyed bingo, making decorations and dish towels and most especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Gladys is survived by two sons, Kenneth Sifrit and his wife, Shirley of St. Anne, Ill. and Larry Sifrit and his wife, Kathye of Estherville,; four daughters, Betty Bush of Cayuga, Ind., Doris Hull of Etherville, Beverly Zitterich and her husband, Charles of Estherville and Donna Hall and her husband, Gary of Windom, Minn.; 18 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Eldon; one daughter, Evelyn; one grandson, Tim; three great grandsons, Chad, Douglas and Brandon; one great granddaughter, Amy; her parents; four brothers, Milton, Arthur, Clarence and Carl and three sisters, Nellie Haas, Ruby Kenne and Mabelle Hoffmeyer (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 10, 2001)
