Ruby Margaret Vandenbusche passed away on June 26 2005 at her home in Canon City, CO.
She was born to Lee and Margaret Briggs in Knowlton WI on May 15 1912, one of seven children. She grew up near Cadot WI and during her junior year of high school went to Milwaukee to work. She worked cleaning houses and then as a nurses aide in a children's hospital in Waukausha WI.
She married George Vandenbusche on Oct 17 1936 in Gladstone MI and they began married life on a dairy farm in the Upper Peninsula. Three months later the family moved to Detroit and then Milwaukee, where George worked in defense plants before and during WWII. During that time, Ruby attended nursing school.
In 1944 the Vandenbusche family moved from Milwaukee to the family farm in St Nicholas and ran the farm until 1965. In that year, George and Ruby moved to Gunnison, CO where George worked on the Blue Mesa Dam, Quigley Hall and finally for maintenance at Western State College. Ruby worked as a night nurse at the Gunnison Hospital and enjoyed her job very much. In 1976 George retired from Western State College as a maintenance worker and he and Ruby moved to Canon City. George passed away in 1990.
Ruby loved her farm in Upper Michigan which is still in the family, loved being a nurse and the people she worked with at the Gunnison Hospital. She was an incredibly kind and generous person.
She is survived by: six children, Margaret Coates of Evansville WI, Duane Vandenbusche of Gunnison CO, Patricia Vandenbusche of Canon City, CO, Judy (Jerome)Verbrigghe of St Nicholas (Rock) MI, Virginia (Robert) Ertle of Englewood CO and Peggy (Jim) Boydstun of Canon City CO; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She will be buried in the St Nicholas Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sangre De Christo Hospice-West or the Cannon City Humane Society.
Memorial service will be held in the local area at a later date.
