Marian V. Anderson, age 85, died on Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson Hospice Care Center, Fitchburg. She was born on April 20, 1920, at her Evansville farm home, in the town of Union, to Edward J. and Sadie (Ames) Ellis. Marian attended Butts Corner Grade School, graduated valedictorian from Brooklyn High School, attended Madison Area Technical College, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She married Arthur M. Anderson on Aug. 16, 1941, at the Methodist Church, Brooklyn. He preceded her in death in 1980. Marian was employed for five years at CUNA Mutual Insurance Society. She later in life worked for Martinson Implement Company, and the Brooklyn Village Government. Marian was a member of Brooklyn Community United Methodist Church. She was a pianist, Sunday school teacher, president of United Methodist Women, and served on numerous committees. Marian was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 49. In 1955, she was worthy matron of the Brooklyn Chapter No. 235- Grand Representative of New Jersey, in Wisconsin. She contributed to and was involved in the Oregon Senior Center. Marian's involvement in school functions included, PTA president, and volunteering at the Oregon Netherwood Knoll Elementary School Library, where she later worked. Marian was a direct descendent of Nathanial Ames, the last of the Revolutionary War patriots to survive in the great Northwest. Survivors include, three daughters, Patricia (Albert) Wilkening, Shirley (Dennis) Erfurth, and Janet (James) Ekenberg; a son, Richard (Julayne) Anderson; six grandchildren, Michael (Bobbie) Anderson, Jessica Wilkening (Paul Kime), Allison Wilkening (fiance, Mike Noack), Angela Erfurth, and Jennifer and Jamie Ekenberg; a great-grandson; and two step-great-grandsons. Marian was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and an infant brother. Funeral services will be held at BROOKLYN COMMUNITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 201 Church St., at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2005, with the Rev. Gail Brown presiding. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 431 Soden Drive from 4 p.m. until 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2005. An Eastern Star Service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Memorials may be made to Brooklyn Community United Methodist Church or Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, Wis. 53711. A special thank you to everyone at Don and Marilyn Anderson Hospice Care Center for their loving and compassionate care.
