DAVENPORT — Ronald E. Kitzman Sr., 89, of Davenport, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Davenport Lutheran Home. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at The Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. until the service. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park.
Ron was born Feb. 2, 1924, in Johnstown, Wis., a son of Edward C. and Anna (Maas) Kitzman. He served in the Navy Seabees, stationed in Okinawa, Japan, during World War II. Ron felt very privileged to have gone on the second Honor Flight of the Quad-Cities, escorted by his grandson, Zach.
He was employed as a machinist for 30 years at Case IH in East Moline prior to his retirement in 1989.
He was united in marriage to Alice Baker on Sept. 17, 1955, in Dubuque. He was a member of Davenport American Legion Post 26. He loved to garden, camp and fish. Ron was an awesome husband, dad and grandpa. He also was a life-long Cubs fan.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Alice, Davenport; daughters, Diane (Ralph) Skalak, South Beloit, Ill., and Rhonda (Scott) Day and Wendy (Brian)Arnold, both of Davenport; sons, Gary, Darien, Wis.; Gordon (Kandy), Sedro Woolley, Wash;, Neal (Dave), Sebring, Fla., and Ronald Jr.(Terry), Mesquite, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Beatrice Doering, Doris Siebert, Mary (Dick) Young and Gladys (John) Black; and a sister-in-law, Donna Kitzman, Clinton, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Barbara, and a brother, Glen.
