Her husband wrote in a memoir, "On the 25th of January, 1850, as if to prepare me more fully and humbly to enter upon the superintendence of this large school, the afflicting hand of my Heavenly Father was again laid heavily upon me in the sickness and death of my dear wife, Mrs. Mary Avery Loughridge. She had been sick for several months from disease of the liver. Dr. Wells, an able physician of Fort Gibson, and a Christian gentleman, kindly and generously attended on her from time to time during her sickness. But her work was done; the Lord had marked her for His own, and called her up higher. Her fortitude and resignation, resting alone by faith on Jesus Christ. ... Her remains were deposited in the cemetery of Kowetah Mission, where two other missionary sisters and two missionary babes lie buried."
