| Birth: | Nov. 27, 1920 | | Death: | May 21, 2005 |  Veteran Character Actor. He began is career with his Broadway debut in "The Tempest," 1945. He received a Drama Desk Award for his role in 1969's "A Whistle in the Dark," and he was nominated for a Tony Award for his roll in the 1967 Broadway revival of "Marat/Sade." In 1949, he acted in a series of live plays on the DuMont Television Network. Over the years, he appeared in dozens of TV comedies and dramas to include, “Columbo,“ "Beacon Hill," "Falcon Crest" and "Chicago Hope." His success in films came after he reached the half-century mark, often playing authority figures in such movies as "The Hospital" 1971, "Death Wish" 1974, "The Hindenburg” 1975 and “Beverley Hill’s Cop” 1984. He is best known for his portrayal as the bullying millionaire father Burt Johnson, in the film “Arthur” 1981 and “Arthur 2: on the Rocks” 1988. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
