Winfred Lee Wade

Winfred Lee Wade, 89 years of age of Route 618 section of Buchanan County, VA, passed away Monday, May 6, 2013 in Heritage Hall, Grundy, VA. Born January 19, 1924 in Jewell Ridge, VA, he was the son of the late Marvin and Martha Samantha Whitt Wade.

Winfred was a retired coal miner, enjoyed fox hunting and fishing. He was a United States Army WWII Veteran, having received the Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon, American Theater Service Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon, Expert Infantryman Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge and served in several countries including Tunisia, Sicilian, Rome, Rhineland and Central Europe.

He was a member of the American Legion and VFW of Grundy, VA, was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.

In addition to his parents, Marvin and Martha Samantha Whitt Wade, he was preceded in death

by three brothers, James Houston "Jim" Wade, Thurman Wade and Emory Asa "Mule" Wade and

one granddaughter, Susan Wade.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Edith Frances Robinson Wade;

daughters, Patricia Waters of Jamestown, TN, Vickie Turner and husband Ed of Dayton, OH;

sons, Philip Wade of Richmond, VA, Jeffery Wade of Raven, VA;

sister, Peggy Farmer of Norfolk, VA;

brother, Robert (Bob) Wade of Pounding Mill, VA;

granddaughter, Katie Miller of Dayton, OH.

Funeral services for Winfred Lee Wade will be conducted at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel, Keen Mountain, VA, Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Eddie Hess officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memorial Gardens, Claypool Hill, VA.

Active pallbearers will be his family and friends.

The family will receive friends at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel, Keen Mountain, VA, Wednesday, May 8, 2013 after 6:00 p.m.

Full military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the VFW Post 7360 of Grundy, VA.
