Mildred Hippensteel Kugler, age 98, passed away on May 2, 2013 at Marion General Hospital. She had been a resident of Colonial Oaks Healthcare in Marion, Indiana for the past three years. Mildred was born in Peru, Ind. on September 4, 1914 to Benjamin and Amelia (Guemplein) Hippensteel. She married Merlin Kugler on December 26, 1948. He passed away in 1969.
Mildred was a graduate of Peru High School and of Indiana University. She was a retired school teacher, who taught in Franklin, Noble and Miami counties during her career. At the time she retired, she was teaching business at Peru High School.
Mildred was an avid reader and enjoyed keeping up with friends by letter writing. She was also very interested in researching family genealogy. She was a member of the Indiana Teacher's Association and a lifelong member of First Christian Church of Peru.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brother, Ross Hippensteel and her sister, Ruth Bradshaw.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Linda Thibos, son-in-law, Ron, and granddaughter, Jana of Peru. She is also survived by her son, Ken Kugler and his wife, Carol, of Tarzana, Calif.
Funeral services will take place at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. George McCarty officiating. Friends may call from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery in Peru.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church in Peru.
